Best Tax Software for Small Business Owners in 2026Alright, another tax season upon us.. and another year of these programs moving buttons around . . Trying to figure out what works for a small business owner like myself, with a Schedule C and maybe some Section 179 expenses, is just a headache. Here’s what I've grudgingly accepted as decent options for 2026, after much squinting at the screen..

    TurboTax Business

    It's the big one, of course.. always pushing the 'Live' expert thing now too, which adds to the price. If you already use QuickBooks, it pulls everything right in, which is a blessing, honestly.. saves a few clicks for once.

    Not quite as expensive as TurboTax usually , , but they're trying to keep up. The in-person support is nice if you actually want to talk to someone, but I'd rather just get it done from my iPad with a glass of wine.

    This one is decent if you know what you're doing.. not as much hand-holding as some of the others, but it's a bit cheaper. They claim to be the ONLY one fully online for S-Corps, which is a strong play, I guess . .

    If you're on a budget and mostly just Schedule C, this one is pretty straightforward.. fewer bells and whistles means less to break. They say it's 'cloud-based' for the pros now, but I still prefer my desktop stuff, thank you very much.

    The federal filing is free.. imagine that. State filing costs a bit, but it's still way less than the big boys. The interface isn't fancy, but it gets the job done if you're not easily confused by plain forms.

    It's not just tax software, it’s for all your books, which you should be doing anyway, right ? . . The tax reporting tools are pretty robust if you've actually kept up with your entries all year.

    Drake Tax

    This is more for actual tax preparers, but some of us smaller firms use it because it's so comprehensive for all business types. No separate modules needed for federal and state, which is a relief.

    Intuit ProSeries

    Another one for the professionals, from Intuit, but it's more desktop-based than some of these new 'cloud' things. It's good for volume, especially 1040s with a mix of business stuff too.

    UltraTax CS

    Thomson Reuters' big offering, usually for firms with more complex returns.. definitely not cheap, but very thorough. It still looks like an older program, but if it works, why change it, I suppose.

    ATX Tax Software

    Wolters Kluwer makes this one, also aimed at CPAs and smaller firms, which makes sense. It's got a huge library of forms, so you're not hunting around for obscure schedules.

    Quicken Business & Personal

    More for keeping track of your money all year round, but it helps with tax reports too. If you manage your personal and business finances together, it's one less program to fight with.
